Welcome Tom Myers, Head of Research
We are gearing up for an incredible fall construction season, and our team is growing, again! Today it is my pleasure to introduce you to the newest member of our team, Tom Myers, our Head of Research. Tom brings over 12 years of experience in applied artificial intelligence as well as 20 years of experience with 3D reconstruction from photos. Dating back to 1997, Tom co-founded Point Cloud Inc; a startup focused on 3D walkthroughs for residential real estate and 3D visualization for e-commerce. While at Point Cloud, he co-authored 5 patents related to 3D reconstruction and image-based texture compression, processing and delivery.
In the Law Enforcement domain, he leveraged 3D reconstruction in a system for creating 3D point clouds of crime scenes from drone aerial video footage. He also applied real-time custom training of machine learning image classification for an automated contextual search of videos captured with body cameras and security feeds. Find the bad guy with “this outfit” in all of the available footage.
Most recently, in the medical domain, he spent time building machine learning classification systems for a medical informatics startup. More specifically, he built ML systems targeting deployments at Petabyte scale for the anatomy-based image-driven contextual search of Electronic Medical Records, pre-processed with natural language processing, and integrated with radiology imaging records into a de-identified historical patient jacket.
Did you catch all that? It’s okay if you didn’t, what you need to know this guy is the real deal and we are ecstatic to have him on board. Our journey with Tom started back in 2017, where he created the proof-of-concept implementation for VideoWalk™. His values are close in alignment with ours, and he is incredibly eager to apply his skills in AI and photogrammetry to the construction industry. In my very early conversations with Tom is was clear he is not someone that only does it in a lab. He thrives on being in the field, getting his boots dirty working with customers to understand their problems at the deepest levels before deciding what to build. That could not be more in line with how we operate here at StructionSite.
What does this mean for you as a user? First, expect technology upgrades across the board in our current product. Second, and you won’t feel this one immediately, is our development roadmap just got a massive boost. Third, expect to see Tom on a jobsite, maybe near you! If you are open to a discussion, he’s eager to learn from you.
So much to be excited about, and we have a lot more hiring to do in 2019 still so reach out if you’d like to join us!
